English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is an English language course for speakers of other languages. The course is designed to bring English skills to a level that will help students be successful in college courses.

About Course

The course objective is to prepare foreign language students to study at English language higher education institutions. Usually, students’ intention is to enrol on a bachelor, master, or PhD programme. The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme will help strengthen your English skills. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) students finds that their increased vocabulary and improved pronunciation help them to communicate more clearly and be more effective in their everyday lives.

Our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course prepares you for all the possible language challenges you may experience in a college or university. We train you thoroughly in English essay writing of various types including descriptive, argument, comparison, research and more. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) focuses greatly on the skills required to give both individual and group presentations. These are necessary skills that both domestic and international students find challenging. The course also allows you to have a better understanding of an English-speaking academic environment.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Course Content

Level of English Offered & CEFR Equivalents

  • A1 = Beginner
  • A2 = Pre-intermediate
  • B1 = Intermediate/Upper Intermediate
  • B2 = Upper Intermediate
  • C1 = Pre-advanced/Advanced

Maximum Class Size

15 (but usually class numbers range between 4 to 6 people)

Course Duration

The minimum length of time you can book a course for is 1 week (there is no maximum limit as you can book as many weeks as you want)

Intake Dates

Every week with a Monday start throughout the year (except national public and Christmas breaks). If you enrol on a part-time course (less than 15 hours per week), you would have agreed your class days (and start date) with a member of the admission team during the enrolment process.

Admission Requirements

  • You do not need any previous qualifications to study English with us.
  • You must be aged 16+
  • We recommend that overseas applicants requiring a visa to study with us enroll in full-time courses (minimum 15 hours per week)

How To Apply

You can apply online or by downloading and completing our Student Application Form and providing us with a copy of your passport or a valid photo ID.

Class Times

This course is 3 hours per day, 5 days per week, usually Monday to Friday. You can choose from one of our three sessions to attend your course (subject to availability).

All our English courses are self-funded. You are considered to be a self-funded student if you are funding your own studies or you are getting financial help from family or friends or receiving financial assistance directly from an external funder excluding UK student loan
