Diploma in Accounting - Level 3

The Diploma in Accounting - Level 3 course is the equivalent level to an A-Level or Access to Higher Education qualification.

About Course

The ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Accounting is a 60-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to an A-Level or Access to HE qualification. The Accounting - Diploma Level 3 qualification has been designed to develop the essential understanding and skills needed to provide the awareness of the accountancy and tax regulatory environment, the operational requirements for the accounting and finance function and what is expected of a professional accountant.

Who the Accounting - Diploma Level 3 qualification is for?

This qualification is suitable for you if you intend to take an accounting and finance degree but do not yet have sufficient, relevant attainment at Level 3 to meet the entry requirements for a higher education course or you wish to progress your career in a management role at entry level. 

Progression

On successful completion of the Accounting - Diploma Level 3 qualification, there are a number of progression opportunities.

Students can progress to:

  • The ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Accounting can be studied as a pathway to joining the IFA Direct Programme and gaining IFA membership. The IFA is an internationally recognised professional accountancy membership body. It is a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) the global accounting standard-setter and regulator.
  • ATHE qualifications can be used for progression to relevant bachelor’s and master’s top-up degrees through a growing number of UK and international universities.

Assessment

There is no external assessment (i.e. exams) attached to any unit. You will be required to submit a final written assignment for each module.

Units

Learners must complete all 6 mandatory units.

  • Introduction to Accounting
  • The aim of this unit is to develop an understanding of the different areas of accountancy practice and to begin to consider how these inter-relate with the business environment.
  • Introduction to Accounting Principles
  • The aim of this unit is to develop an understanding of accounting principles and information systems. Learners will develop practical bookkeeping skills and understand how to prepare double-entry ledger accounts from first principles.
  • Financial Accounting Applications
  • The aim of this unit is to gain an understanding of financial accounting techniques. Learners will develop practical accounting skills to enable them to prepare final accounts for a range of different business organisations and will understand how to analyse and evaluate these statements making appropriate justifications for organisational improvements.
  • Introduction to Management Accounting
  • The aim of this unit is to develop their management and costing accounting skills. Learners will demonstrate numerical dexterity by completing practical tasks completed by business organisations on a day to day basis.
  • Introduction to Cost Accounting Techniques
  • The aim of this unit is to develop cost accounting skills. Learners will gain an understanding of the importance of costing to the effective operation of a business organisation.
  • Ethical, Social and Political Issues in Accounting Practice
  • By considering a range of social responsibilities, learners will gain an understanding of the inter-relationship between quantitative and qualitative information.

Level of English Offered & CEFR Equivalents

Applicants must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments. We recommend a minimum of Intermediate/Upper Intermediate (CEFR B1/B2) level of English language proficiency.

Admission Requirements

This qualification is designed for students aged 16 and above.

For students who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of following:

  • Age: 16 +
  • 5 or more GCSEs at grades C and above
  • other related level 2 subjects
  • other equivalent international qualifications
  • Applicants must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments
  • Applicants may also have relevant work experience

Mature students' route:

Mature students are encouraged to apply and will be considered after interview. You may be required to present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include relevant work experience (paid and/or unpaid), participation and/or achievement of relevant qualifications.

You do not need to have studied Business and Management before but an interest in the subject is important

Class Times

This course is 6 hours per day, 2 days per week. Times to be arranged.

All our Diploma courses are self-funded. You are considered to be a self-funded student if you are funding your own studies or you are getting financial help from family or friends or receiving financial assistance directly from an external funder excluding UK student loan
