About Course

The Level 6 Extended Diploma in Business & Management is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is equivalent to the final year of a bachelor’s degree. The Extended Diploma in Business & Management - Level 6 qualification has been designed with support from higher education providers.

Who the Extended Diploma in Business & Management - Level 6 qualification is for?

The Level 6 Extended Diploma in Management (120 credits) is designed to offer learners a broader and more comprehensive experience of management. Learners are required to take all 4 core units plus any 4 optional units. Again, these optional units can all be taken from a specific pathway where learners have particular interests. For those learners interested in fully realising their own academic interest and potential for the subject, this qualification offers the opportunity to engage with a wide range of Level 6 management-related topics.

Progression

On successful completion of this qualification, there are a number of progression opportunities.

Students can progress to:

  • You can progress to an ATHE Level 7 qualification or an MBA from the ATHE Level 6 Extended Diploma in Management

Assessment

There is no external assessment (i.e. exams) attached to any unit. You will be required to submit a final written assignment for each module.

Course Content

To obtain the Extended Diploma in Business and Management - Level 6, learners selecting the core route take the four mandatory units and four further units from the list of optional (opt) units.

UNITS:
  • Leadership and Management (Mandatory)
  • The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to understand the role of leadership and management in organisations; and the use of leadership and management skills to improve organisational performance.
  • Research Project (Mandatory)
  • The aim of this unit is to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to produce a research question and carry out independent research using appropriate research techniques. The learner will analyse and present their research findings, evaluate the research methodology and their personal learning.
  • Managing Quality and Service Delivery (Mandatory)
  • To enable learners to develop the knowledge and understanding required to manage and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Personal Leadership and Management Development (Mandatory)
  • This unit aims to help learners develop their own personal leadership and management skills to support the achievement of organisational objectives and personal progression.
  • Financial Decision Making for Managers (Optional)
  • The learners will develop knowledge, understanding and skills required to make financial decisions to meet business needs.
  • Accounting (Optional)
  • The unit will enable learners to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in financial and management accounting.
  • Managing Finance in the Public Sector (Optional)
  • The learners will develop knowledge and understanding of finance and accountability in the public sector.
  • Economics for Business (Optional)
  • To provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of the economic environment and its impact on how businesses operate.
  • Factors Determining Marketing Strategies (Optional)
  • This unit enables learners to understand the influences on marketing strategy and the characteristics and use of marketing intelligence. It also involves the underpinning principles of strategic marketing analysis, strategic choice and stakeholder engagement.
  • Marketing Communications (Optional)
  • This unit enables learners to understand the principles, practice and components of integrated marketing communications and how they are used to optimize marketing messages, including the use of digital media. Learners will be able to develop an integrated marketing communications plan.
  • Sales (Optional)
  • To provide learners with knowledge and understanding of sales and the principles and practices of professional selling in the business environment.
  • Branding (Optional)
  • To enable learners to develop knowledge and understanding of branding and its impact on the success of organisations.
  • Management Information Systems (Optional)
  • To enable learners to examine the use of information systems within organisations. The learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the contribution information systems make to the development and management of organisations.
  • Logistics and Supply Chain Management (Optional)
  • This unit will allow learners to gain knowledge and understanding of why supply chains are important to business organisations. The unit will allow learners to gain an understanding of how to resolve strategic supply chain management issues and to consider the impact of technology on supply chains.
  • Managing Change (Optional)
  • The aim of this unit is to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to manage change within an organisation. Learners will develop an understanding of the need for managing change and the different models that can be used to support this process.
  • Risk Management (Optional)
  • The aim of this unit is to help learners develop knowledge and understanding of the importance of managing risks in business organisations and enable them to develop an effective risk management plan.
  • Project Management (Optional)
  • The aim of this unit is to enable learners to understand the process of identifying appropriate and feasible projects. Learner will also understand how the projects can be planned and monitored in order to achieve business objectives.
  • Human Resource Management (Optional)
  • The aim of this unit is to develop knowledge understanding and skills in human resource management and consider contemporary issues that affect human resource management within organisations.

Level of English Offered & CEFR Equivalents

Learners must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments.

For those for whom English is not their first language, we recommend the following standards of proficiency in English language skills or an approved equivalent for this qualification:
  • IELTS 5.5 • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B2
  • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 162 or above
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic 42-49

Admission Requirements

This qualification is designed for learners who are typically aged 19 and above.

For learners who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of the following:

  • one or two years’ study of Business, Management or related qualifications at a Higher Education Institution or a college or university offering higher education qualifications
  • a level 5 qualification in Business, Management or related subjects for example an ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management
  • other equivalent international qualifications
